• Trade Deadline

I haven’t had a chance to post since the trade deadline passed, some big moves, and some that didn’t take place…

The biggest trade that didn’t happen was that of Roy Halladay. Despite Halladay being under control for one more year, the price the Blue Jays asked from interested teams was too high.

There were some significant moves: Victor Martinez to Boston; Jake Peavy to the White Sox; Matt Holliday to the Cardinals; and Cliff Lee to The Phillies.

A lot of pitchers moved teams, with only a handful of position players involved. The Pirates were the most active this trade deadline, seemingly happy to trade their entire starting lineup.

The Yankees were relatively quite, moving to strength their bench with the addition of Jerry Hairston Jr. from the Reds.

Since the deadline passed teams are continuing to make moves to strengthen in key positions.

The Yankees looking to solidify their starting rotation by adding Chad Gaudin from San Diego, similarily the Twins signed ex Yankee Carl Pavano from the Indians. The Red Sox apparently claiming Cristian Guzman from the Nationals, although no trade has been completed yet.

The MLBTradeRumors blog has a good primer on trading after the deadline.
